Title: "Fluid Interfaces: Blending the physical & digital worlds." Maes will document a series of projects undertaken by her research group at the MIT Media Laboratory in which they try to invent ways to make the objects, surfaces and spaces around us come alive with interactivity. She will discuss augmented realty projects such as "SixthSense", a wearable camera and projector system which blends the digital and physical aspects of objects into one and the same experience. She will also present novel tangible and gestural interfaces which they have developed, such as the "Siftables" which literally turn "computing" into playing with blocks. Finally she will present work on integrating sensing and actuation capabilities into the materials, objects and spaces around us, thereby bringing them to life and engaging the user in novel experiences.
